This pretty glass jar has not only decorative non-functional handles as embellishment but a silver plated cap. We don’t believe the jar was fitted with the cap when it was originally sold but when we discovered it among family treasures and oddities the two were paired and so they shall remain. It is in very good to excellent vintage condition, perfect for a floral bouquet-minus the cap. We could also envision up-cycling it as a unique terrarium with moss and tiny ferns.

This vintage metal dairy pail is in very good vintage condition. Utilitarian, this pail could serve numerous functions in the home while retaining its rural dairy or industrial good looks. It is approximately 10.5″ tall and nearly 7.5″ in diameter. The buckets handle is strong, swivels out of the way and is built to withstand heavy loads when necessary. Its rustic charm is lovely for a display or prop or, given its original purpose, it would also be a handy air or watertight storage for anything including dog food or cat food. No doubt you will discover other uses for this fine vintage container with lid. It has no dents, some minute scratches, they are barely discernible masked within the beautiful patina.

Cedar Hill Farms Ceramic Crock Pottery

This vintage ceramic crock was manufactured and labeled for Cedar Hill Farms Dairy. The photos depict its vintage condition, with no chips or cracks, it has some discoloration from age and use. It was among family treasures and oddities from our mid-western upbringing. Although we are certain that Cedar Hill Farms was one of over 45 dairies local to southwestern Ohio, we are not aware of its original familial origin. The plural “Farms” suggests it is connected with the collective of local farmers who’s independent dairies milk was sold to and pasteurized under the name Cedar Hill Farms. The dairy went out of business decades ago. Today, the name Cedar Hill Farm is not uncommon, there is a popular farm in Misssissippi that hosts private and public events, another Cedar Hill Farm in North Carolina serves equestrian needs as stables and training for hunters and dressage horses , another in Wisconsin, … The name bears a certain nostalgia for a bucolic setting and time, regardless of origin.

A Story and Study of Masonry by J.F. Newton

builders textbook cover the builders textbook

Written in 1916, it was undertaken to answer a personal quest the author made at the time of his raising in the Order. He wished to produce a book that would communicate antecedents of Masonry, the development, philosophy, mission, and ideal. “The book was commissioned by the Grand Lodge of Iowa, approved by that Grand body, and presented to each man upon whom the degree of Master Mason” was conferred within that Grand Jurisdiction.

There is no dedication marking, although it appears well used. It does have intermittent “pink” transparent highlights within the pages of this 317 page publication.

We make neon, among the many things we create as designers in our studio. Our work has been represented in magazines, newspapers, television, film. It may also be seen in books by the artist, and authority Rudy Stern. The New Let There Be Neon, and Contemporary Neon, include our work for consumer goods giant Procter + Gamble, as well as indie businesses and restaurants. The late, Mr. Stern describes our studio City Lights Neon (Cincinnati) as “one of the most innovative workshops in the country, known for its craftsmanship and high level of design expertise.”

These neon signs would make a great gift as an addition to either one’s personal bar or a commercial environment. They were originally made and used by a client. We have since cleaned and refurbished the piece with a new solid state transformer. They are assembled on painted metal frames and are ready to be plugged in.

Indonesia Male and Female Sculptural Carved, Painted Drapery Accessories

These very old, beautifully carved and painted Balinese figures were purchased from a friend who travels yearly to Bali for business related to the creation of his jewelry designs. Years ago, he shipped several containers filled with antique furniture and accessories, including these ornate “tie backs” over which curtains or drapes would gently swag to the sides of a window or doorway.

Carved and painted utilizing the same technique and style, it is obvious they were conceived and carved as a couple. The patina is lovely, while some of the paint on the faces has worn away over time the carving is outstanding leaving the detail of the facial features, the hair, and his chapeau to enchant. At the top of the J in each, there is a hole for hanging. They both have some dings from age as depicted, his staff appears to have been cracked and repaired prior to our purchase. They exude a gentle, peaceful beauty as either functional objects or as sculptural.

Silver Chevron Memphis Inspired 80s Zig Zag Candlesticks

Boring, endless research aside, we remain excited about this pair of one of a kind candlesticks. Their design is anything but boring! Originally purchased in the 80s, as designers, we recognize these as another example of works inspired by the international design movement referred to as Memphis. The group, comprised of industrial designers working chiefly in Milan, Italy included Ettore Sottssass, Matteo Thun, Peter Shire, George Sowden, Michele De Lucchi, Nathalie du Pasquier, Marco Zannini, … The influence of the then avante-garde design was also seen stateside. The playful geometry, including chevrons, or zig zags, and circles on these extraordinary candlesticks; a nod to modern or post modern design.

Believed to be solid sterling, unmarked by artist, designer, or maker, these candlesticks are beautiful, individually made, sand cast. While the patina from decades of storage was lovely, we chose to clean and polish them prior to photographing them. They have never been used for anything but display, obvious from the design and pristine condition of the candle holders.
